Chestermere City Staff Hockey Tournament Raises Funds for United Way
The City of Chestermere came together for a fun and competitive 3-on-3 hockey tournament held on February 5 and 6 at the Chestermere Recreation Centre. City staff members from various departments, including City Hall, Community Operations, and Community Safety, formed teams to compete in the event, which raised nearly $5,000 for the United Way.
The tournament, a friendly yet spirited competition, brought city staff together to support a meaningful cause. Mayor Shannon Dean played a central role in the event by volunteering as the referee, ensuring the action on the ice was fair and lively. “It’s great to see the community coming together like this, not only to have fun but to support important initiatives that benefit our residents,” said Mayor Dean.
The funds raised will support United Way programs, which fund local community initiatives that help people in need, improve education, and support individuals facing economic challenges. The success of the event highlights the ongoing efforts within Chestermere to raise awareness and contribute to charitable causes.
The City of Chestermere has expressed its gratitude to all the participants, their families, and the generous sponsors who made the event possible. Their support helped ensure that the tournament was not only a success in raising funds but also a reflection of the strong sense of community that Chestermere continues to foster.
This tournament serves as a reminder of the important role that local government and residents play in creating positive change through collaboration and giving back. With a fun atmosphere and a worthy cause, the event showcased the spirit of Chestermere at its best.
