Coding their way to fun

Kids had the opportunity to learn how to build and code their own robots at a special hour-long event at the Library Feb. 3.
"It's very interactive and fun," said Deborah Darling, Director of Chestermere's Sylvan Learning Centre that hosted the event.
Using laptops and Lego, kids were able to build a dancing birds robot and then write code to get it to move and make noise.
The was also coding games on iPads for kids to play while learning how to code a program.
Darling said that teaching these kinds of skills to children is important because of the growth in these industries.
"There's a lot of jobs in the future that are going to require training in coding because the world is so technically advanced right now," she said.
Eight-year-old Carter Van Den Eynden has taken robotics and coding classes before.
His favourite part of the event was building the robots.
