Council Approves name for new park at Rainbow Road and Chestermere Boulevard

18 Sep 2017

The community park space around the new ReidBuilt Centre for Community Leadership was given its official name at the Sept. 5 City Council Meeting.
Council approved the name Cornerstone Community Park for the green space that welcomes people driving into Chestermere on Chestermere Boulevard.
Kathy Russell, City Parks & Recreation Manager explained that the name is meant to reflect the involvement of residents and businesses had in developing the park.
"It was felt there's been a really significant community contribution.
"And then Cornerstone because it's basically the key corner as you come into Chestermere," she said.
The name was selected after a community consultation that was organized by Synergy.
From start to finish, Cornerstone Community Park has been a collaborative community project and Russell believes that the name reflects that community involvement.
The city is holding and grand opening and official unveiling at the park on Sept. 22.
"The formal ribbon cutting is at five o'clock," she said.
The event is to celebrate the completed landscaping project and to celebrate the contributions donors have made to the construction of the ReidBuilt Centre for Community Leadership.
"There'll be refreshments and some speeches but we really want people to come to enjoy the park and walk through the building," said Russell.
