Open Farm Days continues to grow

02 Jan 2018

The numbers are in and 2017 saw the biggest Open Farm Days to date.
"The success of Open Farm Days is due in large part to the hard work of our farmers and ranchers who produce world-class products that are a source of pride for our province," said Alberta's Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Oneil Carlier.
Open Farm Days this past summer was the fifth annual event and broke records for attendance as Albertans made their way to farms across the province to get a taste of rural life and see where some of our food comes from.
"Open Farm Days gets bigger and better every year with more visitors discovering and supporting our rural producers.
"From historical experiences spanning the Middle Ages to the Old West, family-friendly petting zoos and corn mazes, livestock and vegetable farms, along with breweries, meaderies, wineries and distilleries, there was truly something for everyone," said Minister of Culture and Tourism Ricardo Miranda.
According to data just released by the government, more than 20,000 people visited the 101 host farms and ranches during 2017s Open Farm Days Aug. 19 and 20.
Through a variety of activities and experiences, Open Farm Days highlights the importance of the agriculture sector to the province.
The goal of Alberta Open Farms Days is to grow the farm-to-fork tourism opportunities in the province and support the local food sectors.
