Things to See and Do Around Chestermere During the Holiday Lull

10 Dec 2025

The peaceful stretch between Christmas and New Year’s often brings a welcome pause — a few quieter days when the turkey leftovers settle, the weather invites warm drinks, and families look for relaxed ways to enjoy the season. Fortunately, Chestermere and the surrounding region have no shortage of festive outings to brighten the lull.
For theatre fans, one of Calgary’s most popular holiday productions is taking the spotlight: Sister Act is running at Stage West through the season. Based on the hit 1992 film, the musical follows lounge singer Deloris Van Cartier as she hides in a convent and inadvertently turns its struggling choir into a show-stopping sensation. With high-energy Motown-inspired music and the dinner-theatre experience Stage West is known for, it’s a lively escape perfect for families and groups looking to keep the holiday spirit upbeat.
Just an hour east, Rosebud Theatre is offering a more traditional Christmas classic: Miracle on 34th Street. The charming village theatre has long been a seasonal favourite for Chestermere residents, and this year’s production brings nostalgic warmth to the stage. The story of Kris Kringle, a skeptical little girl, and the magic of believing feels especially fitting as 2025 draws to a close. Guests can browse the sweet shops and galleries in Rosebud before settling into the theatre’s cozy, decorated hall.
Back home, Chestermere’s first major event of the new year arrives quickly: Jashan 2026, a vibrant South Asian cultural celebration, takes over the Chestermere Recreation Centre on January 3. The multicultural showcase includes dance performances, traditional music, colourful attire, and community vendors, offering residents a warm, energetic kickoff to the year ahead. The event continues to grow annually and reflects Chestermere’s diverse, welcoming spirit.
Beyond ticketed events, locals can still enjoy winter walks along the lake, visits to local cafés, or festive lights throughout neighbourhoods like West Creek and Rainbow Falls. With mild weather expected through much of the holiday week, outdoor skating rinks and the pathways around Anniversary Park are also popular spots for families eager to get some fresh air.
Whether heading to the theatre, celebrating cultural traditions, or simply taking in the winter calm, the holiday lull offers a chance to reconnect, recharge, and enjoy the community at an easier pace.
As Chestermere counts down to 2026, these local experiences add warmth and colour to the quietest days of the season.
